Conversion of historic Milwaukee Soldiers Home to veteran apartments gets tax credits

The planned conversion of the historic Milwaukee Soldiers Home to apartments for veterans and their families is taking a big step forward.

That $38 million project, announced in August, will receive federal affordable housing tax credits.

Madison-based development firm Alexander Co. will sell the credits, totaling $1.4 million, to raise equity cash for the project, enabling the firm to secure a construction loan.
