Business Journal: VA seeks developers to restore Soldiers Home buildings

In Milwaukee, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued its long-awaited request for proposals (RFP) to find developers to restore buildings in the Soldiers Home grounds. That post-Civil War campus is a national landmark and, despite the VA’s ongoing repair work on some buildings, local preservationists have long hoped for more efforts to save its historic buildings.

The RFP would let developers lease Soldiers Home buildings for up to 75 years if they finance a restoration that will put buildings back into use to serve local veterans. Development proposals are due May 18.
