Journal Sentinel: Veterans housing among development proposals for Soldiers Home grounds
Historic buildings at the former Milwaukee Soldiers Home grounds would be redeveloped into veterans housing and other vet services under several conceptual proposals being reviewed by federal officials.
The Department of Veterans Affairs received 10 responses to a request for expressions of interest in the 19th century buildings, which are located on or near Mitchell Blvd., between I-94 and W. National Ave., on the grounds of the Zablocki VA Medical Center.
The department issued the request to determine if developers can convert the historic buildings into housing and support services for veterans who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, and their families.
